TADs Unleashed Recap

We were privileged to host Dr Maximilian Küffer, a world-renowned authority on TADs and skeletal anchorage, in Sydney from 6 to 8 August 2026. The programme ran as a two-day didactic course followed by a limited-attendance hands-on day.

It was among the best orthodontic courses I have attended. Maximilian’s depth of knowledge and his teaching style were superb, and the room was genuinely surprised by what TADs make possible with both aligners and fixed appliances.

Three take-home messages

  1. Predictability. Strategically placed TADs deliver a wide range of maxillary movements reliably, including distalisation, mesialisation and intrusion of posterior teeth.
  2. The palatal TAD and transpalatal bar. A simple palatal placement combined with a transpalatal bar substantially augments maxillary anchorage. It is straightforward to execute through a digital workflow, where the placement templates are designed digitally using CBCT as the guide.
  3. TADs with aligners. TADs allow posterior intrusion and distalisation alongside aligner therapy. With sound planning and correct insertion angulation, movements that are ordinarily difficult to control with aligners become far more predictable.

We are planning to bring Maximilian back for an extended programme. Register your interest and you will be first to hear.
